„Misija Sibiras‘16” ekspedicija tradiciškai truko 2 savaites, bet šįkart jos sutilpo į 1 ilgą poliarinę dieną Igarkoje, už poliarinio rato.

Į poliarinę dieną, kuomet saulė nenusileido niekada. 16 jaunų žmonių komanda patyrė visko: nepaaiškinimą ramybės ir susikaupimo jausmą, radus pirmus lietuviškus kryžius, bandymą nugalėti nuovargį, stengiantis išplėšti kapines iš miško, buvimą savimi.

Bet, svarbiausia, šie jauni žmonės patyrė milžinišką komandos vienybę, kai per 48 valandas didžiausiose lietuvių tremtinių kapinėse visoje buvusios SSRS teritorijoje iškilo 9 nauji kryžiai.

2 savaites arba 1 poliarinę dieną galime išgyventi dar kartą 50 minučių trukmės režisieriaus Martyno Grašio dokumentiniame filme „Misija Sibiras’16. 2 savaitės, trukusios 1 poliarinę dieną.”

Filmas, į kurį sudėtos pačios įvairiausios emocijos – nuo neužtikrintų ir išsigandusių žvilgsnių, išlipus Igarkos oro uoste iki plačių šypsenų sutikus visai nepažįstamus žmones, kuriems frazė: „Mes iš Lietuvos“, virsdavo pareiga padėti 16 jaunų pilietiškų žmonių. Filmas, kuriame istorija tampa gyva!

Relive „Mission Siberia” through the documentary film „Mission Siberia ’16. 2 Weeks in One Polar Day”

Thousands of Lithuanians were deported to Gulag camps between 1940 and 1953, but for years few Lithuanians knew their stories or how they were treated when they returned to Lithuania. Since 2006, young Lithuanians have been helping change that through the project “Mission Siberia.”

Each year Mission Siberia sends 15 young Lithuanians to Siberia and other areas in the former Soviet Union where Lithuanians were deported. They search for places where Lithuanians have lived and tidy up cemeteries where Lithuanians are buried. But most of all they go to meet Lithuanians — and their children and grandchildren — who decided to stay even after it was possible to return in the 1950s.

Once back in Lithuania the expedition members make presentations, keeping the memory of the deportations alive and giving other Lithuanians a nuanced view of deportation history. You can also share in this experience by viewing the 50min. documentary film of the 2016 expedition, titled „Mission Siberia ’16. 2 Weeks in One Polar Day.” The film documents the 16 participants who experienced a polar day (never ending daylight) in the town of Igarka. Follow their many fulfilling experiences in the old cemetery, where they erected new crosses and cleaned up the grave sights. The film also captures their raw emotions and reactions as they take in their surroundings and navigate the mission before them.
