The 17th World Lithuanian Community Congress (Seimas, or parliament, in Lithuanian), which convenes every three years, was held in Vilnius last week. In addition to Board and member-country reports, the program included discussions on dual citizenship, community development, Lithuanian language teaching, identity and other issues relevant to the diaspora.
Lithuanian community representatives from 37 countries elected a new Board, with Dalia Henke, representative from Germany, as president for a third term. In her statement, she noted that the newly-elected Board will continue to nurture cooperation with Lithuanian institutions.
The new Board consists of:
