The film “Tu man nieko neprimeni” or “Slow” in English, by Marija Kavtaradze is premiering in Lithuania on September 22, and is already a contender for European film awards. It has been selected by the European Academy of Film for its list of nominees, and will be considered in five categories: best European film, best director, best screenplay, best male and female actors.

“Slow” had its world premiere at the Sundance Festival (Park City, Utah) in January of this year, and won Best Director, with good reviews at other screenings from critics, professionals and audiences. After Sundance, it was shown at international festivals in Istanbul (Turkiye), Sidney (Australia), Karlovy Vary (Czechia), Taipei (Taiwan), Mallorca (Spain), Wroclaw (Poland), and Durban (South Africa).

Nineteen European films are vying for awards in all five categories in the annual competition conducted since 1988. Films on the nominees list will be evaluated by 4600 academy members, with nominees to be announced on November 7.  Winners will be awarded in Berlin on December 9. The film was produced by Marija Razgutė (M-Films) as a joint project with Spain and Sweden.

In this subtle love story, contemporary dancer Elena meets sign language interpreter Dovydas. The film portrays the evolution of their gentle platonic relationship toward a romantic one. Kavtaradze’s innovative approach and the chemistry between actors Greta Grinevičiūte and Kęstutis Cicėnas, in concert with the film’s cinematography and music has “Slow” already earning the reputation of a classic.

This is M. Kavtaradze’s second full-length film. The first “Išgyventi vasarą” (Summer Survivors) which came out in 2018, premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, with screenings and awards garnered at other international festivals. Screening rights were acquired by Italy, Latvia, Albania, Slovenia and other countries including USA.

Director Marija Kavtaradze and her creative team were awarded for their work on “Slow” by the Lithuanian Ministry  of Culture. (With information from bernardinai.lt.)
