On March 31, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda unveiled the logo of the NATO Summit to be held in Vilnius in July of this year. The main element of the logo is a stylized knight – “Vytis”, from Lithuania’s coat of arms, symbolizing the energy and power of Lithuania’s centuries-old statehood tradition.

According to the president, Vytis has historically accompanied the Lithuanian nation as it was also the symbol of the coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Republic of Lithuania during the inter-war period. Vytis, the iconic Lithuanian knight, has his sword upraised, ready to defend both the country and the Alliance, said the president. “He is the symbol of our strength and our determination to protect us from rising threats, and of our solidarity with our allies.”

Nausėda noted that it was symbolic that with Russia’s war in Ukraine, the NATO Summit will be held in Vilnius. “In July of this year, the leaders of all NATO countries will be in Lithuania. I hope that we will also see President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine here. This is a strong message to the aggressor in our neighbourhood that we are united,” he said.
