We are sorry to announce that our Facebook page is no longer functional. In April of last year, the federal government proposed Bill C-18, which requires digital platforms such as Meta (formerly Facebook) and Google to compensate news providers for the use of their content. The Bill was meant to support news media which were in decline: since 2008 over 470 media outlets were forced to close, and at least a third of Canadian journalists lost their jobs. Meta and Google are opposing the Bill, and decided to restrict access for Canadian readers until Bill C-18 is passed. This will affect from 1 to 5% of the 24 million Canadians who use Facebook and Instagram.
