The annual Vilnius Book Fair is a special event – and not just for book-lovers. This year the numbers were in rare alignment, with the 23rd Book Fair opening on February 23, 2023. The event motto is 700 Lines for Freedom, referring to the city’s 700th anniversary as well as the theme of freedom for Ukraine. It was expressed in a song about “blue and yellow over the city” during the opening ceremony attended by President Gitanas Nausėda and his wife, Diana, Culture Minister Simonas Kairys, mayor Remigijus Šimašius and this year’s poet laureate Rimvydas Stankevičius.
This year’s vast program of book launches, displays, meetings with authors, seminars, lectures and workshops for all ages as well as concerts and films was published in full on the website https://vilniausknygumuge.lt. A large collection of photos from the fair is aslo available on the website.
