World Gliding Championships in Lithuania

The 21st European and 4th World Gliding Championships opened on July 2 in Prienai, Lithuania (on the Nemunas River 28 km south of Kaunas). Participants came from Lithuania and 21 other countries. For two weeks over 100 glider pilots will compete for best place, with awards and closing ceremonies acheduled for July 16 in Pociūnai. Lithuania is represented by 8 members of its all-star team.

Lithuanian gliding pilots are among the best in the world, and so far Lithuanians have done well in the competition, with Lithuania holding fourth place and hoping to win medals.

The weather during the first week of the championships was not stable, causing challenging complications.
