This year marks the 700th anniversary of the iconic Trakai Castle, 30 kilometres from Vilnius. The seat of power held by Lithuanian monarchs since the end of the 14th century is a popular historic site as well as a recreational venue situated on lake Galvė, offering many summer activities.

Events have been held all year to celebrate the Castle’s history, the local ethnic Karaim population and Lithuania’s Year of Youth. And the festivities are not over. Further anniversary events on September 8 will include theatrical and musical performances, sporting events, a crafters market, children’s activities and visits appearances by famous Lithuanian personalities.

In the Castle’s main courtyard the Royal Trakai Theatre will present a light and sound show involving at least 100 actors. A free concert will feature virtuoso Saulius Petreikis, the group “Rondo”, DJ Jovani and actor-composer Vidas Bareikis.

The art festival “Transmisija” begins on September 4 and will continue until October. Alkas.lt
