Scholarships for Studies in Lithuania

Lithuania is providing scholarships to attract foreigners of Lithuanian descent to study at the country’s institutions of higher learning.

“We have been observing a positive trend for several years now, and we are pleased that the number of foreigners of Lithuanian descent choosing to study in Lithuania is constantly growing,” Justas Nugaras, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Sport, was quoted in a press release. “We hope that state support will motivate foreign Lithuanians to successfully complete their studies and use the knowledge they have acquired to work here in Lithuania,” he added.

This academic year, 211 foreigners of Lithuanian descent from 30 different countries received state support. The largest number of students of Lithuanian origin come from neighbouring Poland, as well as Ireland, Germany, the US, the UK, Kazakhstan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Tunisia, Turkey, and Armenia. Students who have received state support this year are studying in 21 Lithuanian higher learning institutions.

There are two types of support available to foreigners of Lithuanian descent: a monthly grant of almost 160 euros and a social allowance of between 203 and 319 euros per semester.

More than 146,000 euros is expected to be allocated to support the study of foreigners of Lithuanian descent in Lithuania between 2023 and 2024.
