Strict fishing regulations – a good example for many countries

On February 1, the traditional annual moratorium on pike fishing began in Lithuania, to prevent their capture immediately preceding and during their spawning season. Until April 20, no commercial or recreational pike-gishing is allowed in any lakes or other bodies of water. During this time environmentalist will control fishing activity, with the right to stop and inspect vehicles used by possible poachers. Transgressions may incur fines from 120 to 300 euros and confiscation of equipment. An additional 240 euros will be charged for every pike that is caught, as compensation for damage to fisheries. The fine for any pike caught in reservoirs or restricted waters will be tripled.
