Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda attended the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York and addressed the Assembly on September 21. In his speech, the Lithuanian president focused on global and regional challenges: the management of the pandemic, migration, and the rule of law.

This year, Lithuania is running for a seat in two UN bodies: the Human Rights Council and the Executive Board of UNESCO.

The presidents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are scheduled to meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to mark the 30th anniversary of the three Baltic countries’ membership in the organization.

Nauseda will also used his visit to New York for economic diplomacy, with his iteinerary including meetings with US companies planning growth in Lithuania.

The president will meet with the Lithuanian American communities in New York and Chicago before returning to Lithuania.
