The Hot Docs International Documentary Festival is on, and the world premiere of the documentary Roberta will be screened in Toronto on Tuesday, May 2 at 5:15pm and Sunday May 7 2:45pm. at the Scotiabank Theatre (5), 259 Richmond St. West.

Created by director Elena Kairytė, the 80-minute film is about a girl called Roberta. She is always moving – houses, kairstyles, direction – in this intimate portrait of a young Lithuanian woman grappling with flux while fumbling for purpose and personal values in these times of economic, social and environmental uncertainty.

Elena Kairytė is a director, writer and cinematographer based in Lithuania. She actively works in the visual arts and runs an international education program for schools “Film Dialogue“ with her partners. In her films she mostly explores documentary forms and its possibilities within the trans-disciplinary field. Her works, which blend her signature quirky sense of humour and a search for beauty in moments of everyday life, have been competing at prestigious film festivals throughout Europe.

This is the only entry from Lithuania in this year‘s festival, however a quick scan of directors‘ names produced Lina Lyte Plioplyte (USA), with Periodical, with its third screening on Friday, May 5, and Samuel and the Light by Vinícius Girnys of Brazil, being shown on Wednesday, May 3 and Sunday, May 7.
