Lithuanian Community Anniversary

Seventy years ago in Montreal, on August 30-31, 1952, a conference of Lithuanian delegates from all over Canada gathered to elect the first Board of directors of the Lithuanian Canadian Community of Canada, and accepted its by-laws. To this day, the Community has continued the work its founders deemed important – to promote Lithuanian cultural, educational, charitable, social, professional and athletic activity in various communities and organizations throughout Canada.

This important anniversary will be celebrated in Montreal, where the Community began as an organized institution. Everyone is invited to join in the events planned for May 28 at La Toundra at Parc Jean Drapeau (1 Circuit Gilles villeneuve, Montreal) which has is free parking and is accessible by Metro. Daytime activities (entrance fee $5 pp) will be held from 1 to 5 pm, with live performances (Viena širdis, Gintaras, Garbanotos mintys, Ensemble Bonaventure), traditional dancing, exhibitions, arts and crafts, outdoor activities, Lithuanian food and more.

Artists showing their work include Daiva Blynas, Silvia Staškevičius, Alan Forster, Nijolė Matusevičiūtė-Forster, Aušra Geralavičiūtė, Natalija Jakonienė, Alvyra Povilaitienė, Ina Varkala and Harold Celtorius.

In the evening, a cocktail hour and banquet dinner begins at 5:30 pm, with a closing performance by Pegasus.
