Funding for Foreign Students

The Ministry of Education, Science and Sports has announced new funding for foreign students studying Lithuanian. They are invited to choose summer courses and part-time courses in Lithuanian language, culture and history.

The Education Exchanges Support Foundation offers Lithuanian language and culture summer courses for students, lecturers, researchers from all foreign countries (except citizens of Russia and Belarus), and foreigners of Lithuanian origin from all foreign countries. Candidates may take advantage of the scholarship for a maximum of 3 sessions. Summer courses are one month long. Scholarships for in-person learning may reach 735 euros.

In the summer of 2023, Lithuanian language and culture courses will be organized at six  institutions of higher education and research (applications are accepted for one institution per applicant): Klaipėda University, the Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore, Mykolas Romeris University, SMK University of Applied Sciences, Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University.

Lithuanian teachers from the diaspora are also encouraged to enrich their knowledge of Lithuanian at 15-day summer sessions offered at Klaipėda University (deadline for applications – April 24), Vilnius University (April 18) and Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas (April 20).

Foreign students may also apply for short-term studies (1 or 2 semesters), for which 15 scholarships are available.

There are currently 239 Lithuanian language (community-based) schools in the diaspora, with approximately 8,600 students and 1,000 teachers. There are 40 centres for Baltic or Lithuanian studies in the world, with 1,100 students in attendance.
