August 31 of this year is the 28th anniversary of the withdrawal of Soviet occupational forces from Lithuania. The Ministry of National Defence invites Lithuanians to attend commemorations throughout the country. Although Lithuania declared the Restoration of Independence on March 11, 1990, the remaining troops left the country via the bordertown Kena at 11:46 PM on August 31, in 1993, ending decades of occupation.

Commemorative events with flag-raising, exhibitions and military orchestra concerts will take place in Vilnius, Kaunas and other location in Lithuania.
